How to Draw the CLASSIC SUPERHERO POSE

posted in: Action Poses 5

When I create an original character, I usually draw him in some sort of pose that shows off his costume as well as his superhuman physique. This is exactly that pose.

It’s a pose popularized by classic characters like Superman, Captain America, Batman, Shazam… you name it. It’s why I consider it a “classic”. Even when we’re playing superheroes as kids, we automatically assume this pose.

Remember that these action poses aren’t specific to any one character. I intend for these drawings to be a starting off point for you to draw your favourite characters with. If you want to know more about my action pose tutorials, be sure to watch this video first.

To make things easier for you, I have turned this action pose into a downloadable template you can use for your drawings. That way, you can skip drawing the pose and get right to drawing your character. Of course, to get better at drawing, it would be a lot better if you followed this tutorial video from start to finish.

Below, you’ll find that there are two sizes, so select the one that best suits your needs. You’ll likely notice that these templates are drawn very lightly in blue, that’s in order to make these lines less distracting for when you draw over them.

By the way, I have compiled these poses into a brand new ACTION POSE playlist, which you can find here.

Happy drawing,
Ramny

I’m a schoolteacher who has always loved to draw. One day, one of my students said, “Can you teach me how to draw Baymax from Big Hero Six?” Thus, the channel was born! I’m a big nerd who loves comic books, action figures, and movies. I live in the USA, but I’m actually Filipino-Canadian.

Hi Ramny, I wish you could do a tutorial on how to do the forearms in different positions, i have a hard time drawing them and the surface anatomy. I dont know where to put the ridge muscles and how far down towards the wrist do the arm muscles balloon or expands and where they taper off, i have a hard time mapping out the forearm in different views as well. please think about it, Im sure Im not the only poor soul that has this problem, or maybe I am.
I love your stuff, please keep up the good work.
