This Sunday is the biggest sports event in North America — The SUPER BOWL! For this occasion I am kicking off my brand new tutorial series in which I draw professional sports teams’ logos.
Being a graphic designer I have always been into logo design. Sports logos are of particular interest to me because a good sports logo can communicate so much, such as the history of the city the team is in or the philosophy of the sports club. Sports logos become iconic symbols that last for generations.
And if you’re in a sports-obsessed nation like here in the USA, these sports teams are your life. They become part of your identity.
For those who don’t watch the NFL and are more into the football that North Americans call soccer, head on over to the Google+ Community and let me know which European football club’s logo I should do first!
(You can choose from any of the European football leagues. The club or team with the most mentions gets to have their logo drawn on Feb. 12. Details in the link above!)
So here is the tutorial for the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS. They face off against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI (51) this Sunday.
Tomorrow will be the Falcons logo. Stay tuned for that!
P.S. Please remember that sports logo requests still need to follow my request guidelines! http://drawittoo.com/index.php/2017/01/11/have-a-drawing-tutorial-requestsuggestion-watch-this-first/
BRIEF TEAM HISTORY:
Professional football arrived in New England on November 16, 1959, when a group of local businessmen, led by former public relations executive William H. “Billy” Sullivan, Jr. was awarded the eighth and final franchise in the new American Football League. One week later, Northwestern University running back Ron Burton was selected as the franchise’s first draft choice and Syracuse running back Gerhardt Schwedes was selected as the team’s first territorial choice.
