There’s was something striking about the armor scarecrow in Avengers: Endgame. After a vast, mega universe-wide event, it was very interesting to see Thanos retreat to a simple life of a farmer. There’s something to be said about the way the scarecrow forms a cross, almost as if Thanos views himself a saviour. What do you guys think?

ABOUT THE SCENE IN THE MOVIE:
In 1991’s Infinity Gauntlet (one of the main sources of inspiration for the Infinity War movie), Thanos is actually shown retiring from villainy and tilling the fields on a remote alien world. In that story, Thanos is retreating in disgrace more than gloating over a hard-won victory. As in the movie, Thanos acquires the full Infinity Gauntlet in this story and uses it to wipe out half of all life in the universe. The difference is that he quickly loses the Gauntlet due to his own hubris and has his work quickly undone. Thanos realizes that deep down, he always wanted to lose. Faced with his own psychological weakness, Thanos retires to live a quiet, simple life. He even uses his costume as a scarecrow just as he does in this movie.
[I]t’s interesting to think about what this Thanos-crow might symbolize on a deeper level. Scarecrows are tools used to ward off birds and prevent crops from being devoured. Basically, Thanos is cultivating life on his farm and doing what he can to protect it from predators. That’s the exact opposite of what he was attempting to do in Infinity War. Is the Thanos-crow a sign that Thanos has a newfound respect for the preciousness and fragility of life? Is the scourge of the MCU evolving into a defender instead?
