Red Ranger (Power Rangers [2017] Movie)

I’m telling you guys now you guys — this by far, is the longest tutorial I have ever done.

The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers is a huge nostalgia trip for me because I watched the show religiously when it first came out. There was nothing else like it on TV at the time — not in North America anyway. But for me I was already familiar with the Super Sentai genre, having watched shows like Choudenshi Bioman and Hikari Sentai Maskman, and even Space Sheriff Shaider as a kid growing up in the Philippines.

When MMPR debuted on TV I was at the perfect age. I was captivated by the silly spandex costumes, dinosaur-themed vehicles that combined to become huge robots, and ridiculously designed monsters.

I grew out of it eventually, and here we are, years later with a brand new reboot on the horizon. I’m not one of the critics of this new remiagining. I’m actually looking forward to it.

And so with the release of the official trailer, here is a tutorial for my favourite ranger of them all — Jason the RED RANGER.

CHARACTER BIO (Since no official bio has been released from the upcoming movie, here’s the bio for the original Red Ranger from the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers TV show):

Jason is a martial artist from the fictional town of Angel Grove, California. In the beginning of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, he and his closest friends Zack Taylor, Billy Cranston, Trini Kwan and Kimberly Hart are selected by Zordon and Alpha 5 as the five “teenagers with attitude” to become the original Power Rangers and defend Earth from the forces of the evil Rita Repulsa. Jason becomes the Red Power Ranger, and is given the Power Coin of the Tyrannosaurus “Dinozord” (a type of Transformer-esque robot), obtains the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord, and is made the team leader. He leads the Rangers into many successful battles against Rita’s monsters, establishing a rivalry with Rita’s number one henchman Goldar.
