Gorilla Grodd (The Flash) or King Kong (Kong: Skull Island) Tutorial

posted in: Tutorials 2

With the Gorilla City storyline prominent in The Flash and Kong: Skull Island released this week, it’s the best time to learn how to draw a gorilla! This tutorial is somewhat unique in that it can be several characters, depending on your context. GORILLA GRODD from The Flash? Sure! KING KONG from the upcoming Kong: Skull Island? Of course! BUCK from Rise of the Planet of the Apes? Yes! HARAMBE? Why not?

Normally I do tutorials on characters with costumes, but with Grodd/Kong I’m making an exception, because the fact that they’re superpowered gorillas gives them enough of a distinction anyway.

Context is everything, so I encourage you to draw a background for this tutorial! Depending on how you do the background you could make this drawing look like a 50-foot gorilla or as a part of an ape army. Up to you!

Happy drawing,
Ramny

GORILLA GRODD CHARACTER BIO:

Grodd is a silverback gorilla that was experimented on by S.T.A.R. Labs, and is now currently the only known non-human meta-human, rather being known as a meta-gorilla. After being exposed to the energy from the particle accelerator, Grodd then escaped his cage and developed powerful psychic abilities, becoming a near-unstoppable enemy of the Flash.

HARAMBE BIO:

Harambe the Gorilla was a 17-year-old Western lowland silverback gorilla who was shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo after a child fell into his enclosure in late May 2016. The incident was wildly criticized online by many who blamed the child’s parents for the gorilla’s untimely death.

I’m a schoolteacher who has always loved to draw. One day, one of my students said, “Can you teach me how to draw Baymax from Big Hero Six?” Thus, the channel was born! I’m a big nerd who loves comic books, action figures, and movies. I live in the USA, but I’m actually Filipino-Canadian.
