Baby Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy)

I AM GROOOOOOOOOOOOT!

Admit it. We all came out of Guardians of the Galaxy having fallen in love with Rocket and Groot. I mean who didn’t? They practically stole the whole show.

Today we’re drawing Groot as he appeared in the very last part of the movie, giving Drax a little freeze-dancing tease as he cleaned his knives.

I cannot wait for the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, and I am actually pretty excited that they’re keeping Groot in his little baby form for the film. It’s going to be a different dynamic with him being the tiny one, riding on Rocket’s shoulder this time around.

Here’s one of the comics I was referring to in the video. It’s part 4 of the whole saga which I recommend you read. It’s about a guy named Michael Korvac who sent his powers back in time before committing suicide, and the GOTG must track that power through space and time before it reaches Korvac again in the present. If you want to know more about the original Guardians of the Galaxy — Charlie-27, Martinex, Yondu, Starhawk, Vance Astro — You should definitely pick this up. Also, Michael Korvac did appear in the Avengers cartoon. Definitely check that out as well.

Here’s a bonus video showing you how I did the inking in Baby Groot:

Happy drawing,

CHARACTER BIO:

Groot is a hyper-intelligent, tree-like organism from the species Flora colossus, native to the planet X. While he possesses human level intellect, Groot’s robust and heavyweight physiology causes the organs of his acoustic generation to become stiff and inflexible, rendering the limits of his speech to the simple phrase, “I am Groot.”

I’m a schoolteacher who has always loved to draw. One day, one of my students said, “Can you teach me how to draw Baymax from Big Hero Six?” Thus, the channel was born! I’m a big nerd who loves comic books, action figures, and movies. I live in the USA, but I’m actually Filipino-Canadian.
